What Affects Solar Panel Costs
Amazing statues in the Times Square Information Center. Artist: SEWARD JOHNSON. Johnson's life-sized bronze sculpture was inspired by Grand Wood's painting of Iowa farmers entitled American Gothic. The artist hopes to capture the attention of passersby as they come across these "farmers" in the unlikely urban atmosphere of Times Square. The work, created in bronze with Johnson's signature realism, has been exactingly painted to promote the "double take" reaction of approaching two actual farmers in a densely populated urban area. Johnson uses this "double take" reaction, to focus attention on the commentary embodied in the sculpture about the loss of jobs in America by outsourcing. Using the classic depiction of two American farmers in this 3-dimensional sculptural work, he shows the farmers accompanied by a suitcase with stickers from many of the overseas outsourcing capitals. Regarding the outsourcing U.S. jobs in agriculture, manufacturing and even art Johnson says, "More American sculptors are now casting overseas due to the advantage of inexpensive labor pricing available there. It is a disturbing trend that effects the community of working artists, and the viability of art foundries on our shores."
